Columbia Shipmanagement (CSM) has introduced a new training app designed to prepare seafarers for Port State Control (PSC) inspections.
The PSC Challenge, hosted on the company’s Learnstrike platform, uses scenario-based modules to simulate inspection conditions, combining technical areas such as compliance, documentation and maintenance with soft skills including communication and decision-making.
The system is fully integrated with Columbia’s Management System and builds on the shipping company’s previously launched COLREGs Challenge app.
The training incorporates real-life vessel deficiencies and guidance on rectification, aiming to help seafarers identify risks and implement corrective actions before inspections. The game includes 30 interactive modules across four campaigns, from basic awareness and deficiency reporting to planned maintenance and preventive drills.
“The PSC Challenge delivers practical, scenario-driven learning in an engaging, gamified environment, reinforcing both technical skills and soft skills critical for operational excellence,” said Oleksandr Yepikhin, Training Officer at Columbia Shipmanagement.
