“It has strengthened the role of our city as a strategic platform for defense and innovation at the national and international level”

La Spezia – “The conditions exist today to relive a historic moment similar to the one in the first decades of the twentieth century, which saw the city at the center of manufacturing, research and culture, also thanks to the fundamental stimulus provided by the Marina Militare. A path that can only be realized with the involvement of all the political, economic and social components of the territory, in the awareness that no one wants to create the conditions for new conflicts, but rather to promote security, development and progress”
This is written by Confindustria La Spezia in a note praising the success of the ninth edition of Seafuture, a technology fair linked to the blue economy and defense “which has strengthened the role of our city as a strategic platform for defense and innovation at the national and international level”.
“Thanks to the Marina Militare, the Polo nazionale della dimensione Subacquea, and the contribution of large companies like Fincantieri, Leonardo, Intermarine and MBDA and to many other SMEs in the supply chain with high skills and very high know-how, La Spezia today confirms itself as a national reference center for the industrial mechanics sector related to the defense sector,” says the industrialists’ association. During the kermesse, hosted inside the maritime arsenal, a signature was placed by the governments of Italy and Greece which aims at the transfer of two frigates currently part of the Marina Militare, with an option for two more.
“Our goal is to support a defense system that, in line with the Constitution, serves to protect a democratic country and, at the same time, becomes an engine of technological growth, research and innovation and therefore an important element of economic and social development for the territory. History teaches us that many innovations essential for civilian life today, from the Internet to satellite navigation systems, were born in the military sphere,” says Confindustria addressing the dissent towards the event expressed by civil society. “We believe it is essential that Seafuture continues to be held in La Spezia, a place that for its history, skills and infrastructure represents the natural context for the development of the event.”
