According to data from Dynaliners, in August there were twenty weekly round-trip container shipping services on the Mediterranean-Far East route, one more than a year ago. Over the last 12 months, three services operated by Medkon Lines, Gemini Cooperation and Wan Hai were added, while two services operated by FesCo and SeaLead were discontinued. In addition, Msc’s Phoenix service replaced Dragon, while Premier Alliance converted one of its two connections into a Europe-Far East-US West Coast pendulum.
Overall, annual transport capacity increased by 12% compared with the previous year, reaching 9.92 million TEU. Twenty-six more ships were deployed, with an average capacity 600 TEU higher. Ocean Alliance (Cma Cgm, /Oocl and Evergreen) leads the ranking, ahead of Gemini Cooperation (Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk) and Msc. Further behind is Premier Alliance (Hmm, One and Yang Ming). Hmm also offers an independent service, which operates westbound routes via India.
The 12% growth in annual commercial capacity this year follows a 10% increase in 2025 and a 35% increase in 2024. Although the average ship size has slightly increased, it has not undergone substantial changes since 2020.
