Container volumes in China up near 2 per cent in 4M 2022

China’s container throughput rose by 1.7 per cent to 91 million TEU in the period of January to April 2022.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Transport of the People’s Republic of China, the Port of Shanghai handled the largest number of containers across the country in April, despite facing a city-wide lockdown.

Last month, Shanghai as the largest port in China moved 3,080,000 TEU, a 17.2 per cent decline year-on-year.

The Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan processed the second largest amount of containers in April, moving 3,030,000 TEU, up 11.8 per cent year-on-year.

The Port of Yinkou saw the largest decline in throughput, only handing 300,000 TEU, down 34.8 per cent over the same period in 2021.

The Port of Dalian handled the same number of containers.

The cargo volume of Chinese ports was also 4,905.0 million tons in 4M 2022, a year-on-year increase of 0.2 per cent.
