China Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (COOEC) announced that it has recently secured two contracts for the BH Project in Qatar, with a total value of approximately $4 billion. This achievement sets a new record for the largest contract value secured by a Chinese enterprise for an offshore oil and gas engineering project in the Middle East region. It signifies a new breakthrough in the international offshore oil and gas engineering capabilities of Chinese enterprises and holds significant importance for advancing high-quality oil and gas cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Located in the Qatari waters of the Persian Gulf, the project comprises four sections: new construction, subsea works, conversion, and decommissioning. CNOOC was awarded two of the tenders, which include the construction of several new structures, the laying of several submarine cables, and the conversion of some existing facilities.
COOEC stated that in recent years, COOEC has closely followed the strategic deployment of the group company, while continuously promoting the development of strategic emerging industries, actively implementing the “Belt and Road” initiative, and has implemented nearly 70 projects along the route, injecting momentum into local energy infrastructure construction and economic development.
The Middle East, as a strategic global energy hub, has always been a key market for COOEC. Leveraging its robust EPCI turnkey capabilities and full-industry-chain service advantages, COOEC continues to secure orders in the Middle East region.
Earlier, on July 3, the “Haiyang Shiyou 201” deepwater pipe-laying and lifting vessel owned by COOEC passed the inspection by the owner of the Qatar ISND5-2 project at Ras Laffan Port in Qatar, and was officially approved to enter the project construction. This is the first time that the vessel has obtained a “license” for construction in the Middle East waters, marking that China’s operational capabilities in deepwater oil and gas engineering equipment have been internationally recognized.
