China’s COSCO Heavy Industries shiprepair division has inked a letter of intent (LOI) to join the global shipyard network of Newport Shipping
Under the LOI, five of COSCO Heavy Industries (CHI) shiprepair facilities will join as partners in Newport Shipping’s global network. These five yards are CHI Nantong, CHI Shanghai, CHI Zhoushan, CHI Dalian and CHI Guangdong.
Adding the five yards will increase Newport Shipping’s capacity by a further 19 docks and 1,300 drydocking slots per year. Overall, this means Newport Shipping will have access to 20 shipyards, 57 docks and 3,800 drydocking slots per year.
UK-based Newport Shipping offers shipowners standardised drydocking at its partner network of shipyards for their shiprepair and maintenance needs, as well as turnkey solutions for retrofitting ballast water treatment systems, exhaust gas cleaning systems and converting ships to burn LNG as a fuel.
Newport Shipping managing director Lianghui Xia said, “The addition of five repair yards from COSCO Group will greatly strengthen our global service network. It is always an integral part of our strategy to offer first-class drydocking and retrofit services to our clients. And we will make sure to stay on the right track”.
