London, September 18 (Xinhua) — By Ouyang Kaiyu: During London International Shipping Week 2025, a thematic forum titled “Green Intelligent Solutions for a Safe, Sustainable, and Efficient Shipping Industry” was recently held in London, attracting nearly 150 industry professionals from China and abroad. Participants stated that future cooperation between China and the UK, as well as between China and Europe, will be further strengthened in areas such as green fuel research and development.
At the event, COSCO SHIPPING Group and the China Classification Society (CCS) collectively showcased the latest technological and practical achievements of the Chinese shipping industry in the fields of green development, intelligence, and sustainable development. COSCO SHIPPING (UK) Co., Ltd. officially released its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practice achievements, witnessed by numerous Chinese and international guests. The China Classification Society presented its latest explorations in green and digital fields on-site, including the formulation of over 30 green and digital ship standards, the construction of an intelligent ship digital twin platform, and the establishment of an innovative zero-carbon shipping laboratory, among other practices.
In his address, Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), stated that for many years, the IMO has called on shipowners, nations, and enterprises to invest in new technologies and take practical measures to promote the decarbonization of the shipping industry, which has yielded tangible progress and taken solid steps in the field of alternative fuels such as methanol, ethanol, ammonia, and hydrogen.
Zhu Bixin, Director and General Manager of COSCO SHIPPING Group, said in his speech that the group consistently integrates ESG principles into its global operations. The group is willing to work with global counterparts to promote cooperation through openness and seek win-win outcomes through innovation, contributing shared wisdom and strength to the transformation and upgrading of the global supply chain.
It was reported that more than one-third of the new ships currently added by COSCO SHIPPING Group are new energy vessel types, and the overall operational efficiency has been enhanced through blockchain and artificial intelligence technologies. (End)
