CPM works on logistics platform development in Mejillones

Must read

The general manager of the Mejillones Port Complex (CPM), Juan Alberto Ruiz, pointed out that the company is working on the development of a logistics platform that will provide services for port, logistics, and industrial activities in the Mejillones bay.

In this regard, Ruiz emphasized that “nowadays, logistics support zones have become the natural extension of ports, generating competitive advantages and efficiency in logistics chains.”

Within the framework of the seminar “Logistics Infrastructure for the Consolidation of the Bioceanic Corridor,” the general manager supported the relevance of the municipality as a strategic territory to enhance the commercial exchange of different industries across the Pacific, thanks to its port and logistics development.

The head of CPM considered that “Mejillones is a logistics platform city for the northern macro-zone with the capacity to compete in three global value chains: copper, lithium, and green hydrogen.”

In that scenario, Ruiz highlighted that “our port complex currently has two terminals, one multipurpose and one for the loading and unloading of bulk goods, and also has a master plan and backup areas that will enable the growth in port infrastructure required by 2050.”

Likewise, he highlighted the connectivity with the mining, industrial, and consumer “hinterland,” connected to the Mejillones bay by highway and railway lines, offering direct access to the terminals, without passing through populated centers and minimizing the impact on communities.

Ruiz added that “we currently have two railway operators that transport cargo to CPM and we also have land available for the storage required by clients and expansion options adjacent to the port.”

In the initial offering of the project, services for cargo, a logistics park, and lots for specialized logistics projects will be considered. Considering the installed capacity and development plans, the executive stated that “our strategy is aligned with the needs of the bioceanic corridor, mining, and industry, making available backup areas that allow us to respond to the growing demand for cargo and projects.”
