Crown Iris, the cruise ship that has stirred a storm of reactions this summer due to its passengers and ownership, as they originate from Israel, with all that this entails as a protest because of its war with Hamas and the thousands of civilians who have been killed in the Gaza Strip.
This is a familiar cruise ship for the port of Piraeus, as from 2009 until 2018 it belonged to the Louis Group. Initially, it was named Louis Majesty, then, while chartered to Thomson Cruises from 2012, it bore the name Thomson Majesty until 2017 when the charter ended and it operated cruises for its company, which by then was named Celestyal Cruises, simply as Majesty.
As Thomson Majesty
As simply Majesty with the colors of Celestyal Cruises
Before its “Greek” history, it belonged until 1997 to Royal Cruise Line, which built it in 1992 as Royal Majesty. Subsequently, it was purchased by Norwegian Cruise Line, which renamed it Norwegian Majesty. In 1999, it was lengthened by 34 meters, giving it greater capacity.
From the moment it was built in 1992 until 2018, in one way or another, it carried the name Majesty.
In 2018, it was sold to the Israeli Mano Cruises and took the name Crown Iris. In fact, its company has preferred the Chalkida shipyards in Avlida for nearly 20 years for repairs and winter docking of its ships.
