Tropical Cyclone Alfred is set to make landfall near Brisbane late on March 7 or early March 8, severely impacting operations in the area.
As of midday March 6, the slow-moving storm was about 150 miles off the coast, generating record-high waves and prompting “prepare to evacuate” warnings for low-lying areas. Authorities warn of widespread flooding, destructive winds up to 95 mph, and dangerous storm surges.
Port operations remain restricted under the direction of Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ), with the Brisbane and Southport Pilotage Areas officially closed to all vessels.
Ships are required to remain outside Queensland State waters until conditions improve. While port operations are expected to be suspended through March 9, authorities are preparing for a safe and timely resumption once weather conditions allow. Businesses and port tenants have been urged to secure equipment and cargo to minimize storm damage.
Additionally, a Storm Force Wind Warning is in place for Sunshine Coast Waters, Moreton Bay, and Gold Coast Waters, with authorities advising extreme caution for any vehicle movements in the coming days.
