Fatal injury of a 20-year-old Greek sailor, a crew member of the ROPAX Blue Star Chios. According to initial information, he was caught in a watertight sliding door of the ship’s ground-level car garage before the arrival in Piraeus.
He was transferred unconscious by an EKAB ambulance to the Tzaneio General Hospital of Piraeus where his death was confirmed.
A preliminary investigation is being conducted by the 1st Port Authority of Tzelepi of the Central Port Authority of Piraeus.

«This morning at 8:00 on the Blue Star Chios which was performing the Rhodes – Piraeus route, a sailor of the ship was found – unconscious – trapped in a watertight sliding door. The ship’s crew immediately proceeded with the extrication and provided first aid. Immediately after the ship’s arrival at the port of Piraeus at 09:15, the sailor was received by an EKAB ambulance for transport to a hospital where his death was confirmed.The Blue Star family is shocked and expresses its support to the sailor’s relatives.The company is cooperating with the competent Authorities to investigate the circumstances of the tragic incident».

The Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation, following information it received about the fatal injury of our colleague A.A. with the specialty of Engine Cleaner, on the ROPAX vessel “Blue Star Chios”, extends its condolences to his relatives and simultaneously demands from the competent services the full clarification of the circumstances under which the fatal injury of our colleague took place.

The unions PEMEN and STEFENSON proclaim a 24-hour Strike, from today 24-09-2025, 11 a.m. until tomorrow 25-09-2025, 11 a.m. on the ROPAX «BLUE STAR CHIOS» of the shipping company BLUE STAR FERRIES on the occasion of the fatal injury of the 20-year-old Engine Cleaner A.A., on board the vessel.
Until the full investigation of the accident’s circumstances, the ship will not leave the port of Piraeus.
