The livestock vessel named Deala was towed to a floating dock after being stranded for over a year, and the first phase of the challenging maritime operation at the entrance of the Raška Channel was completed.

According to Croatia’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport, and Infrastructure, the vessel was successfully towed to the dock last night. Among the technical interventions was the lifting of the dock along with the ship from the sea. This will allow for further reinforcement and preparations to move the ship to the cutting area.

A source said, “This phase of the operation has now been completed. Tomorrow, the dock will be lifted along with the ship, and the following day, it will be further reinforced to ensure safe towing.”

No marine pollution was reported during the intervention. Protective barriers were placed around the vessel to prevent the spillage of fuel or other hazardous materials.

The Deala vessel had been stranded for over a year after being driven into shallow waters at the channel’s entrance due to strong waves and bad weather. Because the ship had been exposed to the sea and wind for months, a refloating operation could not be conducted.

The final part of the operation will involve towing the ship to a scrapping area after docking and permanently removing it from maritime traffic.
