Must read

The death has been announced after a long illness of Herry Lawford, once of Thomas Miller, managers of UK Club. Lawford joined Thomas Miller upon graduating in 1967 and retired in May 2006 after 39 years at the firm.

He worked initially for the UK Club when he started to travel frequently to talk to shipowners, correspondents and lawyers – initially to Yugoslavia and India with Bill Birch Reynardson and then to the Middle East (eg Saudi and Iraq) and in time to Japan and China.

In 1972, he was appointed Secretary of the International Group of P&I Clubs.

Lawford became a partner in Thomas Miller in 1982 and then in 1984 became the founding manager of what would later become ITIC.

While working at Thomas Miller he visited more than 50 countries, many of them regularly. He was a keen blogger and photographer.

Lawford spent his spare time developing an on-line Encyclopaedia which involved having many of the Clubs’ publications retyped into electronic form. He also set up and ran the UK Club’s website, posting a weekly news update.

UK Club said that “Herry was a man of great charm and flair. Always good humoured, courteous and debonair and will be greatly missed by all his many friends around the world.”
