Denmark: Port of Aarhus begins work to build new 430-meter pier

Must read

Aarhus Port, in Denmark, began work to build a new quay that will be 430 meters long and 14 meters deep, after the placement of the first steel plates.

The development of the new maritime space was approved by the country’s Civil Aviation and Railway Authority and is one of the final steps to complete the Omniterminal, an initiative that already spans several years of development.

“It is a milestone for us to be able to start the construction of the final phase of the Omniterminal. The quay facilities are a crucial element to secure another attractive area in the port, which, of course, I am pleased we have already leased. With the plans for a new container terminal, we provide space for more business opportunities, strengthen supply security, and above all, create jobs for Aarhus and all of Denmark,” said Thomas Haber Borch, CEO of Aarhus Port.

The future quay installation was designed to reduce concrete consumption without compromising robustness. In this way, the CO2 emissions from the construction are reduced compared to traditional processes.

Furthermore, the site is being built so that it can immediately implement shore power plants and supply container ships. The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
