DNV has been appointed by Elenergy Co Ltd, a South Korean renewable energy development company, as owner’s engineer for its 1.5-GW fixed-bottom Chujin offshore wind project
When completed in 2027, the Chujin plant will be the largest commercial-scale offshore windfarm in the country. Electricity from the offshore windfarm will be used to produce green hydrogen.
In September 2022, Jacobs was awarded a contract by Elenergy to complete a feasibility study for a green hydrogen production and import facility that will provide locally produced and imported green hydrogen to help advance the country’s plans to transition to a clean energy economy.
As owner’s engineer, DNV will drive pre-front end engineering design and supervise contractors in the design, procurement, construction, commissioning and operations phases to mitigate risk and prepare optimal solutions for project construction.
The windfarm will be located 10 km east of Chuja-do in Jeju City in southern Jeonam province, South Korea and will consist of approximately 100 wind turbines.
The project is backed by investor Namsung Shipping, a South Korea-based shipping carrier. The Chujin windfarm will be constructed in three stages, consisting of 500 MW for Phase I and an additional 1 GW for Phases II and III.
Riviera Maritime Media has a comprehensive conference programme for the rest of 2022 and will provide free technical and operational webinars in 2023.
