On Monday, August 1, Dorothea took up her new position as Chief Executive Officer of SCB
Dorothea Ioannou holds a JD from St. John’s University School of Law and a BA from the The City University of New York. Her career now spans over 30 years, beginning in the early ’90s in medical insurance and law firms involved in commercial and maritime law and then managing the claims department of a well-respected insurance broker.
In 2005, Ms. Ioannou joined the newly formed SCB (Hellas) Inc., the Piraeus Claims Liaison Office for the Managers of The American P&I Club, where she went on to become Claims Manager and Managing Director as well as Global Director of Business Development.
She was appointed Chief Commercial Officer of Shipowners Claims Bureau, Inc., in 2018, Deputy Chief Operating Officer in 2021, while in June 2020, Secretary of the Board of Directors of the American Club.
Dorothea is also a frequent event speaker. She was awarded the Next Generation Shipping Award for 2017 at the Lloyd’s List Global Awards in London. She served on the Board of WISTA Hellas for four years as Vice President, Head of WISTA International Nominations Committee for four years, served as a board member of the Piraeus Marine Club, represents the Club as a member of the American – Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, and most recently was elected to the Board of Governors of the International Propeller Club Port of Piraeus.
On Monday, August 1, Dorothea took up her new position as Chief Executive Officer of SCB, making history as the first woman selected to serve as chief executive of an International Group of P&I Club in the 167 years history of the P&I mutuals.
Dorothea has gained immense respect and loyalty during her tenure and has been instrumental in building the dynamic, engaged culture for which the American Club has become renowned. All at SCB, the Club, and EOM congratulate her on her new role with certainty that the new executive team will continue to build on past achievements to generate greater success in the years ahead.
