DP World, the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), and Nevomo have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore collaboration opportunities for a pilot project using Nevomo’s MagRail technology.
This system enables self-propelled, rail-based cargo movement within port ecosystems.
DP World, a global leader in end-to-end supply chain solutions, is spearheading efforts to introduce advanced freight technology in India.
DPA, a key government-operated multi-cargo port, will facilitate testing the technology at its Kandla terminal to assess its feasibility.
This initiative aligns with India’s National Logistics Policy and PM Gati Shakti agenda, aiming to enhance port-hinterland connectivity and modernise logistics infrastructure.
The MoU was signed on 15 July 2025 in Kandla, Gujarat, by DPA Chairman Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, DP World CEO Rizwan Soomar, and Nevomo CEO Przemek (Ben) Paczek.
The MoU outlines a 750-metre pilot of MagRail technology at Deendayal Port.
This pioneering project in India will demonstrate autonomous, electric-powered freight movement on existing rail tracks, improving capacity, efficiency, and speed while reducing costs and CO2 emissions.
Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, Chairman of DPA, stated: “This collaboration advances port infrastructure, enhancing capacity and efficiency to meet growing cargo demands. DP World’s support is key to strengthening India’s logistics framework and facilitating seamless trade.”
Rizwan Soomar, CEO & Managing Director of DP World (MENA & India Subcontinent), said: “Collaboration is central to transformative infrastructure. Our partnership with DPA and Nevomo will accelerate India’s logistics goals and carbon neutrality ambitions through innovative, integrated infrastructure solutions.”
Recently, DP World and its partner, Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI), introduced a fleet of 15 electric internal transfer vehicles (eITVs) at Manila South Harbour — the first of its kind in the Philippines.
