Dredger sinks while moored off Tuas in Singapore

A Belize-registered dredger, KSE Hitachi, sank while moored off Tuas on the afternoon of 14 April, according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Authorities were alerted to the incident at approximately 1:30pm. Fortunately, no personnel were on board the vessel at the time, and there have been no reports of injuries. Port operations remain unaffected by the incident. The dredger’s operating company is currently arranging for the vessel to be salvaged.

The MPA has issued a navigational broadcast to advise nearby vessels to steer clear of the area as a precautionary measure.

In response, three MPA patrol crafts have been deployed to the site to provide assistance. The MPA has launched an investigation into the cause of the sinking.
