Dry bulk operator orders tanker newbuildings

Must read

Helikon Shipping Enterprises, a London-Greek operator of dry bulk carriers, has been named as the party behind the order of two MR2 tanker newbuildings in Vietnam

Helikon Shipping Enterprises was established in London March 1961 and is a dry bulk carrier operator connected to the Papaioannou family with offices in London, Athens and Dalian. It is currently listed as the operator of 18 dry bulk carriers.

It has been linked by shipping databases and shipbrokers to the order of two MR 50,000-dwt product tankers at Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding for delivery in 2025.

While Helikon Shipping Enterprises is best-known as an operator of dry bulk carriers, it is reported to have an interest in MR tanker operator E4C Shipping Pte Ltd (E4C), a joint venture comprised of entities and individuals affiliated with ECCO Holding (the shoe company), Gunvor Group and Dee4 Capital Partners.

Formed in 2020, day-to-day operations are overseen by Dee4 Capital Partners, reporting to the board of E4C.

The two Helikon Shipping Enterprises MR tankers on order at Hyundai Vietnam join 28 similar MR tankers on order at the yard, with deliveries ranging from August 2022 through to September 2025 for the Helikon Shipping Enterprises vessels.

Other Greek owners with interests in the 30 MR tankers on order at Hyundai Vietnam include Thenamaris, Capital Ship Management and Empire Chemical Tankers.
