Eco-steel heat exchanger team-up

Must read

Alfa Laval and SSAB are teaming up on the development and commercialisation of the world’s first plate heat exchanger to be made using fossil-free steel, with the first unit in production next year.

Alfa Laval’s heat exchanger portfolio – said to be the industry’s widest – includes plate heat exchangers that are suitable for both traditional and alternative fuels. The company is collaborating with the Swedish steel company to utilise its upcoming fossil-free steel made with HYBRIT technology which promises to be a breakthrough for the industry.

“Our marine plate heat exchangers are already key to decarbonising on board, thanks to their superior level of energy efficiency,” said Peter Nielsen, president, Alfa Laval Marine Separation & Heat Transfer Equipment.

“Through our collaboration with SSAB, we will minimise their total carbon footprint. Manufactured with fossil-free steel, plate heat exchangers will be as smart in production as they are in operation.”

Martin Lindqvist, president and chief executive of SSAB said the company was looking forward to working with Alfa Laval to mitigate climate change. “With this collaboration we´re reaching new segments, and hopefully inspiring a whole new range of customers,” he said.
