Electronic logbooks streamline Fugro crew workload

Must read

The geotechnical survey vessel owner is installing electronic logbooks on its ships to improve data quality and to digitalise onboard operations

Fugro is deploying electronic logbooks across its fleet of geotechnical survey ships to enhance and streamline the extraction, collation and communication of operational data, supporting its digitalisation strategy by standardising and automating data recording.

It aims to improve data quality for reporting and compliance with international and regional regulations, reduce the administration workload on crew, and to optimise procedures on its vessels.

During a trial phase of using these logbooks, Fugro saw improved data quality and higher support for its crews, enabling them to focus on safety and operations.

“This technology and the valuable data it can gather also contributes to our digitalisation efforts, underpinning our roadmap to net-zero Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions by 2050,” said Fugro global manager for quality, health, safety, sustainability and the environment across the fleet, Julia Korpak.

For crew, automated data logging saves time usually spent on administrative work, while removing task and recording duplication and eliminating data entry errors.

ClassNK affiliate Napa will supply its logbooks for the fleetwide distribution following successful trials on Fugro vessels.
