Ematec to unveil offshore versions of well-known blade lifting and handling equipment

Must read

Ematec, the well-known German supplier of lifting equipment for the wind energy industry, is to unveil new products developed specifically for the offshore wind market at WindEnergy Hamburg 2022 in September

The company will launch the offshore version of its RBC-D rotor blade lifting beam at WindEnergy Hamburg, and unveil details of the RBT-C50, a newly designed offshore lifting beam that can turn rotor blades through 90 degrees before assembly.

Ematec chief executive Manfred Eberhard said, “I am delighted we will be unveiling two new rotor blade assembly systems for the offshore wind sector at WindEnergy Hamburg.

“This is an important milestone for us,” said Mr Eberhard. “Until now, we have mainly served the onshore wind industry. But we also want to make rotor blade assembly and maintenance offshore as efficient and safe as possible. In short, we can now also do offshore,” said Mr Eberhard.

The RBC-D can accommodate all blade shapes on the market thanks to its adaptive blade support technology, which automatically adapts to blade shape. “That was previously only possible on land,” said Mr Eberhard. “Now, it is available for rotor blade assembly at sea.

“The RBC-D40 offshore can safely pick up and handle rotor blades of up to 40 tonnes – regardless of their shape. This means it can be used for assembly and for the maintenance of offshore windfarms.”

Ematec’s second innovation for the offshore sector is in the development phase. The RBT-C50 will combine the advantages of Ematec’s RBC and RBT systems, and thus offers automatic adaptive blade support and a pitch angle of 90 degrees.

“The RBT-C50 will have the potential to revolutionise the assembly of offshore wind turbines,” Mr Eberhard concluded.
