European Causeway suffers mechanical issue on Cairnryan-Larne route

P&O Ferries vessel European Causeway (IMO 9208394) suffered a “temporary mechanical issue” during a crossing from Cairnryan in Scotland to Larne in Northern
Ireland that required a response from lifeboats and local tug boats.

P&O said on April 26th that, following the mechanical issues, the ferry continued its scheduled journey to the Port of Larne under its own power, with local tugs on standby.

The RNLI lifeboat service said it had sent three lifeboats to assist the passenger ferry.

A P&O Ferries spokesperson said that “there are no reported injuries onboard and all the relevant authorities have been informed,” adding that “once in dock a full independent investigation will be undertaken.”

2002-built,Bahamas-flagged, 21,188 gt European Highlander is owned by P&O European
Ferries Irish Sea of Dover, UK. It is managed by P&O Ferries Ltd of the same address, while the ISM manager is P&O Ferries Holdings Ltd of the same address. It is entered with Standard Club (International Division) on behalf of P&O European Ferries (Irish Sea) Ltd.
