According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a captain reported that “an unknown missile” struck near his vessel, accompanied by “a loud bang.” The crew is safe and the ship is continuing its journey, while an investigation is underway.
The British maritime security firm Ambrey reports that the tanker flies a Liberian flag and is owned by Israeli interests, estimating that it may be connected to the targets of Yemen’s Houthis, allies of Iran. Since 2023, the Houthis have been targeting ships in the Red Sea that they believe are related to Israel, citing support for the Palestinians in Gaza.
So far, the organization’s involvement has not been confirmed, and there has been no immediate comment from its side.
