The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) of Bio Bio supervised the export of 2,550 live heifers bound for Pasir Gudang, Malaysia, after verifying compliance with the zoosanitary requirements demanded by the destination market. The loading operation took place at Talcahuano Terminal Portuario (TTPSA).
The animals, originating from the Maule and La Araucanía regions, were loaded aboard the livestock vessel Gelbray Express, which docked at sites 1C and 1B of the facility operated by the concessionaire of Puertos de Talcahuano.
The ship, registered under the flag of Portugal (Madeira), was launched in 2014 and is 135 meters long and 20 meters wide. The unit was specifically designed to transport live animals under controlled conditions.
“This is the second shipment of this year, from the Bio Bio Region, where SAG carries out preliminary work, as it is responsible for guaranteeing that the animals meet the sanitary requirements of the destination market,” the state public agency reported.
Of the total loaded animals, 950 Holstein heifers were transported by truck from Linares to the port facility, which was done under the supervision of officials of the entity. In particular, this movement corresponded to shipment number 17 from Maule to Asian markets.
For its part, Puertos de Talcahuano highlighted that “we invited social leaders to witness the loading of heifers at the Port of Talcahuano. Thanks to our concessionaire Talcahuano Terminal Portuario, neighbors were able to see a task that confirms the multi-purpose vocation of this facility.”
The operation was attended by the national director of SAG, José Guajardo; the Regional Minister of Agriculture, Pamela Gatti; the regional director of SAG, Roberto Ferrada; among other authorities.
It is worth remembering that the first operation of this type in 2025, in the Bio Bio Region, took place in March. On that occasion, SAG certified the loading of 2,500 heifers that were also exported to Malaysia, being transported aboard the Girolando Express.
