Exports from the Los Lagos Region exceed USD 5.1 billion between January and September

According to the latest Non-Copper – Non-Lithium Exports Report from ProChile, the Los Lagos Region saw exports reach USD 5.135 billion between January and September of this year, a 2.9% growth compared to the same period the previous year, driven by the dynamism of the fishing and aquaculture sector.

“We continue to consolidate the Los Lagos Region as an export hub for food. Behind every shipment are companies that stand out for their quality, traceability, and commitment to doing things right. So far this year, 323 companies from the area have taken their goods and services to the world, reflecting the strength and diversity of the regional sector. While aquaculture —led by salmon and trout— remains the main engine, we also see how other industries are growing with innovation and by looking at new markets,” said Ricardo Arriagada, regional director of ProChile Los Lagos.

The fishing and aquaculture sector continues to be the engine of regional foreign trade, with shipments of US$4.785 billion, equivalent to 93% of total exports. Within this sector, salmon and trout recorded shipments of over US$4.076 billion (+1.4%), followed by mussels (cholgas, choritos, and choros) with shipments of US$272 million (+11.5%), fish and crustacean meals with US$99 million (+49.7%), and horse mackerel with US$93 million (+11.7%). The main destinations for the sector were the United States (US$1.790 billion), Japan (US$766 million), and Brazil (US$383 million).

In the case of the agricultural sector, it reported exports of US$ 226 million (+4.1%), with shipments of Bovine meat (US$ 44 million), Powdered milk (US$32 million), Animal feed (US$31 million), Fresh cherries (US$30 million), and Infant food (US$15 million) standing out. Its main destinations were China (US$37 million), Brazil (US$27 million), and Peru (US$26 million).

The forestry sector totaled exports of US$71 million, with Wood in chips (US$69 million) and Sawn /or planed wood (US$2 million) standing out. Meanwhile, Manufactures reached US$48 million, with shipments led by Maritime transport equipment (US$23 million), Albumins (US$9 million), and Fertilizers of animal or vegetable origin (US$ 6 million). Finally, the Services sector saw exports of US$ 3 million.
