Fire erupts on board ship in Aegean Sea, Salvage Form reportedly signed

A fire broke out in the in engine room of general cargo ship Mona (IMO 9101534) during the evening of September 14th in Aegean sea, off the western coast of Greece’s Chios island. The fire was extinguished by the crew and no injuries were reported. However, the vessel was unable to continue its voyage from Ashdod to Tuzla and had to be anchored in
front of Agio Gala village, Chios. It remained in the same position as of September 15th, extent of damage and present condition unknown.

A Turkish Open Form salvage agreement had reportedly been signed, Subsequently divers carried out underwater inspections.

During the night of August 25th the Mona, which was en route from Ashdod to Akçansa, had run aground in the Dardanelles while approaching its port of destination. After a salvage plan was prepared by the appointed salvage master, the vessel was refloated during the afternoon of August 28th and taken to anchorage nearby.

1995-built, Malta-flagged, 4,783 gt Mona is owned by Anomis Navigation Ltd care of Kamer Marine Denizcilik of Istanbul, Turkey.
