The first of two ferries to be deployed on the Little Minch Scottish island service has been launched at Cemre Marin Endustri in Yalova, Turkey. The Lochmor and sister vessel, Claymore, will operate on the route between the Isle of Skye and the islands of Harris and North Uist.
They are the third and fourth vessels currently under construction at the Turkish yard for Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL).
The two ferries will replace the single vessel currently operating on the route, Hebrides, enhancing the service and providing more capacity. The Lochmor will be able to accommodate 450 passengers and 100 cars, or 14 commercial vehicles.
Following its launch, the vessel will undergo outfitting and system installation prior to sea trials. The ferry is then due to arrive in Scotland in the second half of 2026.
Transport Scotland provided GBP 115 million in funding for the two ferries and minor port improvements at the island terminals.
The Turkish shipyard was awarded the contract in February 2023.
