Cybersecurity refers to the protection of information and technological systems from malicious attacks, breaches, data leaks or theft, as well as damage to software.
In the context of the maritime industry, it includes the protection of ships, onshore facilities, navigation, communication and cargo management systems, as well as their supporting networks. The importance of cybersecurity lies in the fact that modern ships are now vulnerable to cyberattacks, which can cause delays, technical failures, data and ship-office communication loss, or even maritime accidents.
