FMC seeks comment on import, export info system

Must read

THE US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) is seeking comments on a plan for gathering import and export information from the container carrier industry, reports London’s Port Technology.

The scheme proposes collecting information on tonnage and TEU from each identified common carrier each month.

Information will be collected from ocean common carriers transporting 1,500-TEU or more per month in or out of US ports in international common carriage.

The fmc declared that the initiative is in response to a rule as part of Public Law 116-146, the Ocean Shipping Reform Act of 2022 (OSRA).

The law mandates the commission collect and publish total import and export tonnage and TEU per vessel calling the US.
