Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard, China had a busy period as it completed azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugs for three owners as demand increases for more powerful tugboats with greater manoeuvrability
The Jiangsu province shipyard delivered an ASD tugboat with 3,676 kW of power to an unnamed owner 8 June, with an overall length of 37 m, breadth of 10 m and moulded depth of around 5 m. Its propulsion provides a top speed of 14 knots, a bollard pull ahead of around 60 tonnes and a pull astern of 52 tonnes.
This followed delivery of ASD tug Taixing Xiao Tuo 1 to Taixing Runtai Port Co, 6 June. Its power of 3,680 kW delivers a speed of almost 14 knots, bollard pull ahead of 61 tonnes and 54 tonnes of pull over the stern. Taixing Xiao Tuo 1 has an overall length of 38 m, breadth of 11 m and moulded depth of around 5 m.
Two tugboats were delivered to Fujian port 4 June by Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard. ASD tugs Fu Gang Tuo 19 and Fu Gang Tuo 21 each have 3,840 kW of power, delivering 64 tonnes of bollard pull ahead and 59 tonnes astern, with a length of 40 m, breadth of 11 m and speed of 13 knots.
In between these deliveries, Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard launched ASD tugs from its dock to the quayside where they are being further outfitted and commissioned.
Ying Gang Tuo 5001 was launched 8 June with 3,676 kW propulsion power. It is being completed for Zhenjiang Yingchao Shipping.
Da Gulun 7, with 3,824 kW of power, was launched 1 June for Tianjin Lingang Shipping Co.
The shipyard made progress on other tugboat building projects at the end of May and beginning of June. It laid the keel for an ASD tugboat with a 4,020 kW of power and fire-fighting systems 2 June for Hainan Shipping.
There was a steel cutting ceremony at the shipyard 31 May for two ASD tugs to be built with 3,880 kW of power and fire-fighting systems, for Fujian port.
Construction of two more tugboats, each with 4,175 kW of power was started 27 May for Ningbo Port.
The shipyard also had a busy month in May, delivering two high-power tugs and starting construction of four more.
