The Defense Minister visited Tuco Marine Group on Friday, which is the only Danish producer of unmanned surface vessels, USVs, with thoroughly tested solutions

Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen visited several Funen-based companies on Friday that wish to play a role in the country’s maritime rearmament,

During the tour, it included a visit to Tuco Marine Group in Faaborg, which develops and produces high-speed boats and unmanned maritime solutions.

The visit had a particular focus on Tuco Marine Group’s work with so-called USVs – unmanned surface vessels – which the company has developed and produced locally over the past eight years.

– At Tuco, we are very pleased that the Defense Minister has set aside time in a busy schedule to visit us. We are confident that we can offer solutions that are both ready for contracting and well-tested – and therefore can be built and deployed at short notice for the benefit of Danish security. In this way, we wish to contribute to strengthening Denmark’s defense capabilities, maintaining national production, and at the same time creating local jobs, says CEO of Tuco Marine Group, Jonas Pedersen, in a press release.

Tuco’s development of USVs originally took place as part of international research and development projects, including the Enduruns project, in collaboration with the University of Birmingham and 16 other global consortium partners.

In the project, Tuco was fully responsible for the design, construction, and building of an eight-meter-long USV, developed for long-term operations and integrated with underwater drones for seabed mapping.

Since then, Tuco has commercialized the ProZero USV concept and is now the only Danish producer of unmanned surface vessels that are market-ready, thoroughly tested, and with documented performance under demanding offshore conditions.

Earlier in 2025, the parties in the Danish Parliament reached an agreement, which includes the procurement of vessels for monitoring critical underwater infrastructure, a development program for drones, four marine environment and minelaying vessels, and 21 new vessels for the Naval Home Guard.

Just in July, the government and the parties behind the defense agreement also agreed to establish the necessary physical framework for the construction of larger Danish military ships in Frederikshavn.
