NOVEMBER 20, 2013 — GE Transportation reports the first sale of its new “Ecomagination” qualified 12V250 marine diesel engines, designed to meet EPA Tier 4i and IMO Tier III Emissions standards.
The 12V250 engine develops 3,150 kW at 900 rpm and 3,500 kW at 1,000 rpm.
Five of the engines will be installed in the Marin Tekknik MT 6022 design sub sea support vessel on order for Oceaneering International, Inc. at BAE Systems Mobile, AL, shipyard.
GE’s distributor Cummins Mid-South, LLC will integrate the GE engines into the gensets and deliver them to the shipbuilder.
“We are very excited about the first sale for our newest diesel engine product line offering to Oceaneering,” said John Manison, general manager of GE Marine. “Our new technology enables our customers to meet upcoming emission compliance requirements without exhaust after-treatment as well as to reduce both capital and operating expenses.”
GE Transportation’s marine engine technology eliminates the need for a Selective Catalytic Reduction system (SCR) exhaust gas after-treatment and storing or using urea aboard a vessel, thereby preserving cargo and tank space. SCR requires the use of a diesel exhaust fluid, typically urea, to reduce NOx (nitrous oxide) in an after-treatment of exhaust gas. GE’s non-SCR solution requires no supplemental equipment or fluids.
