Global tugboat giant acquires majority stake in Norwegian maritime services company

Must read

Global leading tug service provider Svitzer Group announced the acquisition of a 66.6% stake in the Norwegian tug and maritime services company Buksér og Berging, pending final regulatory approval.

This investment by Svitzer represents a deep collaboration between the two companies, aiming to leverage the extensive knowledge and experience of both companies in the global towage, offshore operations, related maritime services, and maritime solutions markets. The acquisition does not involve any integration activities; Buksér og Berging will continue to operate as an independent company, maintaining its original brand, management team, values, and development strategy.

Buksér og Berging CEO Vetle J. Sverdrup will continue in his role and retain a 33.4% stake in the company, maintaining active involvement in the business.

It is understood that Buksér og Berging is a service provider for Norwegian ports and terminals, tugboats, offshore operations, and complex maritime operations. Its fleet consists of approximately 35 tugboats, 25 pilot boats, 3 ambulance vessels, and 1 salmon farming service vessel (delousing vessel). The company is headquartered in Oslo, Norway, and has branches in Stavanger and Fedje near Bergen.

Svitzer was founded in 1833 and has nearly 200 years of industry experience. Today, Svitzer is a global leading provider of port and terminal infrastructure services, serving approximately 2,000 customers in 141 ports and 40 terminals across 37 countries and regions through a fleet of 446 vessels.

Svitzer was previously part of the Danish shipping and logistics giant Maersk for 45 years. In the first half of last year, Svitzer was spun off from Maersk and merged into the new company Svitzer Group A/S. Svitzer Group A/S is now listed on the Nasdaq Copenhagen stock exchange.
