Greek shipping majors Navios Maritime Partners and Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN) continue to strengthen their fleets with new tanker deliveries as part of expansive fleet renewal initiatives
Angeliki Frangou-led Navios recently took delivery of 115,762-dwt /LR2 tanker Nave Dorado. This marks the fifth vessel received out of a series of 16 ships, with 11 still under construction.
According to the US-listed owner’s website, all 16 /LR2 tankers are tied to long-term contracts, extending up to 2033. Nave Dorado – designed with the latest environmentally friendly technologies – is chartered until 2030 at a daily rate of US$27,446. As of April 2025, the company’s contracted revenue stood at approximately US$3.4Bn.
Navios’ Q1 earnings presentation also highlights a US$1.4Bn newbuilding programme involving 21 vessels, including 17 tankers and four container ships. The company currently manages a substantial fleet of 174 vessels, comprising 69 bulk carriers, 56 tankers and 49 container vessels.
TEN adds Suezmax
Nikos P Tsakos-led Tsakos Energy Navigation, has accumulated a revenue backlog of around US$3.7Bn from long-term charters.
In its latest development, TEN took delivery of 156,833-dwt Suezmax tankerDr Irene Tsakos from South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and has named its sister ship Silia T, which shares the same specifications. Both vessels have secured long-term charters with leading European and US energy companies, with contract durations of five and three years, respectively.
TEN founder and chief executive Dr Tsakos described these deliveries as a significant milestone in the company’s long-term fleet renewal strategy, reinforcing its position in the global energy shipping market.
Following the delivery ofDr Irene Tsakos, TEN now has 19 vessels under construction, scheduled for delivery between Q3 2025 and Q4 2028. The company’s fleet – including newbuildings – totals 82 vessels, comprising crude oil tankers, product tankers and LNG carriers.
