GSI Starts Construction on Second Methanol Dual-Fuel Chemical Tanker for Germany’s L&B

On October 9, Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, commenced construction of the second 49,500 DWT /product tanker for renowned German shipping company LEONHARDT & BLUMBERG (L&B).

It is understood that this 49,500 DWT /product tanker represents a new generation of MR oil tankers independently developed by Guangzhou Shipyard International. The vessel measures 183 meters in length, 32 meters in beam, and has a structural draft of 13.3 meters, with a service speed of 14.5 knots.

The vessel is equipped with methanol dual-fuel propulsion and an open-loop desulfurization system. Its emissions meet the International Maritime Organization’s Tier III standards and its EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) meets Stage III requirements. It boasts high speed, light weight, low energy consumption, and strong adaptability. In terms of energy consumption, environmental performance and reliability, this vessel also leads the industry in energy efficiency, environmental performance, and reliability.
