Must read

Driven by the LNG shipbuilding boom, GTT has continued to grow its record tank design backlog, adding orders for 20 LNG carriers in October

During the month, the French cryogenic cargo containment technology firm announced orders from South Korean and Chinese shipyards for its Mark Flex III and NO96 L03+ membrane containment systems. This includes a recent order from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering for six 174,000-m3 LNG carriers. These vessels will be fitted with NO96 L03+ membrane containment systems and delivered between Q3 2025 and Q4 2026.

GTT received two orders for the tank designof three new 175,000-m3 LNG carriers being built at China’s Dalian Shipbuilding Industry. Two of the vessels are for China Merchants Energy Shipping and one for an undisclosed international shipowner. All the vessels will be fitted with Mark III Flex membrane containment systems and delivered between Q3 and Q4 2026.

South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) also placed tank design orders during the month for Mark III Flex membrane containment systems. In the case of SHI, GTT will provide the tank designs for four 174,000-m3 LNG newbuilds, two for an Asian shipowner and two for an American shipowner. These vessels will be delivered between Q1 and Q3 2025.

Finally, HHI placed a tank design order for seven 174,000-m3 LNG newbuilds for an Asian shipowner. These vessels will be delivered between Q3 2025 and Q4 2026.

With 10 days left in October, GTT could add to its record backlog. During H1 2022, it reported orders for 88 LNG carriers and 38 tank designs for LNG-fuelled vessels, building on the momentum that began in 2021 with orders for 137 LNG carriers and 32 tank designs for LNG-fuelled vessels.
