Guangzhou Shipyard International builds the first 74,500-ton oil and chemical tanker upper platform for OCY

On October 10, the upper platform construction for the first ship of the 74,500-ton /products tanker built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) subsidiary Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) for Norway’s Ocean Yield (abbreviated as OCY) was completed. Representatives from the shipowner, the classification society, and the project team jointly signed the key construction milestone progress document.

A total of 4 ships in this series are planned. They are a new generation of LRI-type tankers newly developed by GSI according to the shipowner’s requirements. This ship type has an overall length of 228 meters, a molded breadth of 36 meters, a structural draft of 13.5 meters, a deadweight tonnage of approximately 74,500 tons, and a service speed of 14.0 knots. Its emission standards meet the IMO TIER III standard, and its EEDI energy efficiency index reaches Phase 3. It features low energy consumption, high speed, light lightweight, and strong adaptability, achieving an advanced level among similar ship types in terms of energy consumption indicators and environmental performance.

This project marks the initial cooperation between GSI, OCY, and the charterer Braskem, laying a solid foundation for GSI’s subsequent expansion into the South American market and securing more new project orders.
