Hafnia, Reederei Nord and Chartworld launch LR2 Pool

Must read

Hafnia has launched a new LR2 pool called the Hafnia LR2 Pool, partnering with ship manager Reederei Nord and navigation technology provider Chartworld

With vessels delivered into the pool 1 July 2022, the fleet within the pool will initially consist of seven modern units. With this launch, Hafnia will now be running pools across all product tanker segments, complementing its current offering of operating pools from smaller tankers to LR1s.

“We are incredibly proud to launch an LR2 pool with our long-standing LR1 partners Reederei Nord and Chartworld. With the LR1 and LR2 markets having a significant degree of overlap, we expect the synergies of the two pools to complement each other brilliantly and further extend the services we can offer our clients. We are excited to now be operating in the LR2 pool management space, where we look forward to further leveraging our market-leading position in the LR1 segment” said Hafnia vice president, commercial and pool management Peter Kolding.

Mr Kolding added, “As the three founding partners of the LR2 Pool, with years of partnership, we are open to dialogue with additional partners operating in this segment, irrespective of whether they have had previous experience with us or not.”

With the Hafnia LR2 Pool launch, Hafnia will operate more than 240 product and chemical tankers across their commercial platforms, from offices in Singapore, Dubai, Copenhagen and Houston. Earlier this year, Hafnia acquired 12 LR1s from Scorpio Tankers, posted profits of US$163M for its time charter equivalent in Q1 2022 and is looking to raise US$100M in capital.

In a statement, Chartworld commented, “Chartworld has been a member of Hafnia’s MR and LR1 pool for several years. Given Hafnia’s consistently strong performance in the other CPP segments, we are excited to extend our partnership as a founding member of the new LR2 pool.”

Reederei Nord is represented in the LR1 and LR2 segments as well as in Aframaxes, feedersize container ships and bulk carriers. The company’s Aframax ships are managed in in the N2 Tankers Pool as part of a joint venture with Nissen Kaiun.
