HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. has secured a 222.4 billion-won (US$159 million) order to build three feeder container ships for a shipper in the Oceania region, reports Yonhap News Agency.
The company will deliver one 1,800 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) container ship and two 2,800-TEU vessels by October 2027 to the undisclosed client, it said in a press release.
A feeder container ship, generally with a capacity of less than 3,000 TEUs, is a medium-sized vessel that transports intermodal containers between smaller ports and major hub ports.
HD Hyundai Mipo is one of three affiliates under HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co. (HD KSOE), a subholding company of HD Hyundai. The two others are HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. and HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co.
