Norwegian LNG specialist Höegh Evi has joined forces with Italian firms Snam S.p.A. and HIGAS S.r.l. to modernize and expand the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Oristano, Sardinia. The collaboration will focus on developing a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) that will serve as a central element of the upgraded terminal. According to the report published by PortNews, the partnership aims to enhance LNG and natural gas access in Sardinia while supporting Italy’s energy diversification and security goals.
Under the agreement, Höegh Evi will provide expertise in designing, constructing, and commissioning the FSRU, ensuring smooth integration into the existing infrastructure. Snam S.p.A., which recently began exclusive talks to acquire HIGAS S.r.l., plans to rebuild the current coastal terminal into a modern floating LNG facility. The upgraded terminal will support small-scale LNG distribution across Sardinia for industrial, transport, and energy applications. By combining Höegh Evi’s advanced regasification technologies with the local knowledge and network of Snam and HIGAS, the project is positioned to strengthen regional energy supply and contribute to Italy’s broader energy strategy.
