Howe & Wimmer has received an order from VARD for a knuckle boom crane.

Huisman has officially signed a contract with VARD to supply an advanced 250-ton knuckle boom crane for Oriental Energy Technology’s (DFO) newly constructed offshore construction vessel. The vessel, currently being built by VARD, will serve the offshore wind market in Taiwan.

The crane has a lifting capacity of 250 tons, with the main winch arranged below deck. This configuration reduces maintenance requirements and ensures ease of servicing.

DFO CEO Chen Polin stated: “We are honored to install a Huisman crane on the newest addition to our fleet. Huisman’s excellence in quality, reliability, and strong local support has deeply impressed us. Their advanced technological solutions precisely meet our unique needs, and we greatly admire their open and constructive communication when addressing challenges.”

Timon Ligterink, Commercial Director of Huisman Asia Pacific, said: “We are honored to continue earning the trust of VARD and DFO in Huisman. This contract not only marks another important step in supporting the development of Taiwan’s offshore wind infrastructure but also allows us to proudly contribute to this progress with cutting-edge lifting solutions.”

This contract further strengthens the long-term partnership between Huisman, DFO, and VARD. In 2023, DFO awarded Huisman a contract for a cable carousel and signed a letter of intent for a cable-laying system. Additionally, Huisman has previously delivered multiple cranes and pipelay systems for vessels built by VARD.
