Recently, the first vessel H1894A of the Petronas project, constructed by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, was successfully undocked. The General Assembly Division III implemented lean manufacturing, advanced processes, and achieved the generator engine start-up while the vessel was still in dock. This highlights the significant role of lean management in accelerating production and marks the company’s first achievement of a large LNG vessel reaching the generator engine start-up state in dock.
Following the lean methodology of the company’s production line construction—”Two Phases, Seven Standardizations, Ten Steps”—General Assembly Division III set the pace and defined objectives for undocking completeness before the vessel entered the dock. Through efficient collaboration across departments and strong support from design, process, and production assurance teams, lean tools and process optimization were deeply integrated, laying a solid foundation for the early generator engine start-up.
Party members and cadres in General Assembly Division III took responsibility at every level, spearheading breakthroughs to achieve “four improvements”:
1. The generator turbocharger outlet was modified to a 45-degree angle, and the exhaust pipeline layout was optimized. The rupture disc was relocated from the reverse top to the deck surface, eliminating the need for a maintenance platform, reducing construction difficulty, and enhancing safety.
2. The generator sensor cable opening area was moved to the block stage, advancing the process. The installation of generator floodlight bases was shifted to the block stage, increasing pre-installation of outfitting components and improving generator room completeness.
3. During engine room construction, targeted task assignments were made for the generator room, centralized control room, switchboard completeness, systems required for generator engine start-up, and related cables. All installation work in this area was completed, boosting painting efficiency.
4. By implementing pre-embedding processes for the shafting and main engine, the removable plate block, superstructure block, and engine casing block were hoisted seven days ahead of schedule, creating favorable conditions for early cable laying and pipe installation, thereby improving dock construction efficiency.
Hudong-Zhonghua’s General Assembly Division III will solidify the lean construction achievements of the H1894A vessel, continuously advance lean management implementation, and contribute to the company’s LNG vessel production capacity doubling.
