ILO Country Director Visits PHP SBRIL : Praises World-Class Ship Recycling Operations

Must read

During the visit, Mr. Tunon and his team were given an in-depth tour of PHP SBRIL’s modern, environmentally responsible recycling operations — widely recognized as one of the leading examples of sustainable ship recycling in the region. He interacted directly with several workers to understand the facilities, benefits, and welfare measures they receive from PHP.

The ILO delegation observed how PHP has set new benchmarks for safety, environmental compliance, and worker well-being, aligning closely with the objectives of the Hong Kong Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships.

Following the visit, Mr. Tunon shared his appreciation in a personal message, stating:
“Thank you so much for your time and your kind hospitality. It was an important eye opener for me and the team. Not what I expected to be honest 😆. Great to see the investment in doing the right thing is paying off!”

His remarks reflect growing international recognition of PHP SBRIL’s commitment to modern, ethical, and sustainable ship recycling practices — a model for the global maritime recycling industry.
