The International Maritime Organization (IMO) Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) held its 2nd Extraordinary Session at the IMO Headquarters in London from October 14-17, 2025, to discuss the Net Zero Framework (NZF) for the maritime sector.
Director General of Maritime Affairs Ünal Baylan attended the meeting representing Turkey.
As a consensus could not be reached on the Net Zero Framework, which was expected to be approved at the extraordinary meeting, the proposal to adjourn the meeting for one year was accepted by the committee members with 57 votes in favor against 49.
Thus, the regulation for the global pricing of ship greenhouse gas emissions in maritime transport was postponed to the meeting one year later.
The Directorate General of Maritime Affairs published a statement on the matter.
