A proposal is submitted in Honor of Apostolos Vesyropoulos for the mandatory placement of defibrillators in public spaces, so that his memory may be transformed into an act of protecting human life.
With deep sorrow and emotion, society bids farewell to Apostolos Vesyropoulos, a man who left so suddenly, leaving behind an irreplaceable void.
His sudden departure is not only a loss for those who knew him personally, but also a reminder of the need for tangible measures to protect human life. The memory of Apostolos Vesyropoulos can and must serve as a beacon, a guide for actions that will prevent similar tragedies in the future.
For this reason, the immediate legislation of the mandatory placement of defibrillators in all crowded and public spaces is proposed: stadiums, marinas, ports, shipyards, beaches, vessels, ships, mass transit vehicles, shopping centers, schools, airports and airplanes.
Already, the Panhellenic Union of Private and Professional Yacht Crews (P.E.P.I.E.Th.) and its President Cpt. Dr. Georgos Vallis, through donations to remote islands, inaccessible areas and villages, has contributed in recent years to the installation of defibrillators, emphasizing the necessity of their presence also on ships, shipyards, ports, marinas and yachts.
However, the tragic event shows in the most painful way that the establishment of such a measure cannot wait any longer.
In honor of the late friend, it is proposed that the relevant legislation bear his name, so that he is forever associated with the salvation of human lives. An act that will transform his memory into a legacy of hope and safety for our fellow human beings.
This initiative is not only a tribute to Apostolos Vesyropoulos, but also the minimum duty of the State towards its citizens. So that we do not mourn unjustly again, so that we do not experience such a loss again.
In a statement on social media, the President of P.E.P.I.E.Th. states:
With immense sorrow, I was informed of the unjust passing of my dear friend, Apostolos Vesyropoulos.
His loss leaves a tremendous void, as he was a great man, a worthy friend and a unique character, who with his ethos and presence marked the lives of all who had the fortune to know him.
I wholeheartedly wish my dear friend a good journey and express my most sincere condolences to his family and all his loved ones. His memory will remain alive and indelible in our hearts.
