Innovative crew-less vessel arrives in Abu Dhabi

Must read

Fugro Pegasus will be managed from one of Fugro’s Remote Operating Centres (ROC) in the region allowing it to deliver geo-data solutions faster, safer and more efficiently than ever before

Geo-data specialist Fugro believes it is set to transform the maritime sector in the Middle East with the introduction of its first uncrewed surface vessel (USV) to the region. Fugro Pegasus, the latest addition to the Blue Essence family of uncrewed vessels, has arrived in Abu Dhabi and is ready for operations in the Gulf.

The 12m class USV will be the Middle East region’s first fully uncrewed vessel that can go beyond the horizon and has the capability for launching an electric ROV. With its hybrid power system, compact size and advanced satellite technology, Fugro Pegasus is expected to set a new standard for offshore asset inspection by eliminating human exposure to the offshore environment and reducing emissions by 97% compared to conventional vessel operations. Furthermore, Fugro Pegasus can be stationed offshore for longer, without the need to demobilise for crewing or re-fuelling activities at port.

Fugro has also recently expanded its presence in the Middle East with a new facility in Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA). This will serve as its regional base and also host a new remote operations centre (ROC) expanding the company’s remote and autonomous capabilities in the UAE.
