The tanker Talara, en route from the United Arab Emirates to Singapore, was intercepted by Iranian military units and diverted towards the coast
Muscat – A new escalation of tension in the waters of the Gulf of Oman: the oil tanker Talara, flying the flag of the Marshall Islands, was seized by three Iranian military vessels while transiting along the route connecting the United Arab Emirates to Singapore. The unit, of 73,371 dwt, managed by Columbia and owned by the Cypriot Pasha Finance, was forced to head towards the Iranian coast.
This is the first seizure of a commercial ship by Iran in 2025. The last episode dated back to April 2024, when units of the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) took control of the container ship MSC Aries through an operation conducted with helicopters in international waters.
Maritime security analysts are now urging all vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding areas to maintain the highest alert, promptly reporting any suspicious activity. In one of the most strategic and sensitive choke points in the world, the risk of new tensions remains high.
