K Line contracts for three coal carriers

Japan’s Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has contracted compatriot Nihon Shipyard to build three wide-beam, shallow draft post-panamax coal carriers.

The 92,000 dwt ships are methanol-ready and represent a tweak on the designs of K Line’s existing Corona class of post-pamamaxes.

The ships will be used to provide coal to Japanese power stations. No price has been revealed for the newbuilds.
