Kaiko Launches Digital Tool for Vessel Inspections

Must read

Kaiko Systems has introduced Shore Reports, a new digital inspection platform designed for superintendents and vessel managers. The tool aims to replace outdated manual reporting methods with a faster, more reliable system.

Kaiko Systems has launched Shore Reports, a digital platform designed to modernize shore-based vessel inspections. The Berlin-based company says the tool is the first of its kind and is aimed at superintendents and vessel managers who still rely heavily on handwritten notes, spreadsheets, and word documents to carry out inspections.

Although much of vessel operations has been digitized in recent years, shore-based inspections have remained mostly manual. Inspectors often juggle handwritten notes with standalone photos, then spend hours compiling reports once they return to shore. According to Kaiko Systems, existing enterprise tools such as ERPs and PMS platforms are too rigid or complex to meet the unique needs of these workflows.

Shore Reports is designed to change that by offering a mobile-first inspection process that works both online and offline. Inspectors can document observations in real time and capture unexpected issues without disrupting their work. Once the inspection is complete, the data is automatically structured and compiled. A superintendent can then review and refine the report through a web-based dashboard. The result is a professional PDF report complete with summaries and photo documentation delivered instantly through the Kaiko dashboard.

What is Shore Reports?

Shore Reports is a purpose-built digital inspection module designed specifically for shore-based professionals. It offers structured yet highly customisable inspection forms, allowing companies to tailor reports to specific vessel types or inspection needs. During onboard visits, inspectors use a mobile app to capture observations and photos, even offline, with complete flexibility to document unexpected issues on the spot. After the visit, reports can be reviewed and refined via an intuitive web dashboard, ensuring comprehensive and polished final documentation.

“Shore team inspections have been overlooked for too long within the digital services sector,” said Fabian Fussek, Co-Founder and CEO of Kaiko Systems. “We worked closely with superintendents to design Shore Reports around how inspections are conducted and how a digital product can make the job easier. This is not about re-inventing workflows, but about giving teams a tool that fits the job they are doing and helps them work faster, smarter, and with better visibility.”

The company says the system reduces administrative workload and connects directly with maintenance and procurement systems through Kaiko’s API. This allows real-time follow-up on critical issues and helps shorten response times.

Shore Reports can be used for a wide range of inspection and audit types. These include superintendent visits, dry dock inspections, internal ISM and environmental audits, as well as navigation and cargo operation reviews. The forms are customizable by vessel type, inspection category, or company protocols, providing both consistency and flexibility across fleets.Kaiko Systems specializes in AI-powered frontline intelligence solutions for maritime and heavy asset industries.
